Health & Safety

Based in communities across our jurisdiction, Red Cross instructors each year certify an average of 7 million people in Red Cross health and safety courses, which include Red Cross CPR, first aid, lifeguard training and swimming. These courses in turn help make our communities healthier and safer places to live. Red Cross chapters provide instructors at the workplace to teach these courses and others such as back injury prevention, stress management, and work place violence. Full service contracts are available. These all inclusive packages cater to the client's needs.

Emergency Communication Services

When a military family experiences a crisis, the American Red Cross is there to help. Twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a year, the Red Cross relays urgent messages containing accurate, factual, complete and verified descriptions of the emergency to service members stationed anywhere in the world, including on ships at sea and at embassies and remote locations.

Red Cross emergency communications services keep military personnel in touch with their families following the death or serious illness of an immediate family member, the birth of a service member's child or grandchild or when a family faces other emergencies.

When requesting Emergency Communication Services please be prepared to provide as much of the following information about the service member as known:

  • Full name of service member
  • Rank/rating
  • Branch of service
  • Social Security number
  • Date of birth
  • Military mailing address
  • Information about the deployed unit or home base unit (for deployed service members only).

The American Red Cross verifies the information provided by the family and relays it to the appropriate command where it is up to the military whether the service member returns home.
